Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Wichita!

One of the elements comprising the seal of Sedgwick County, also adopted by the city of Wichita as one of its symbols, is a depiction of a Plains Indian praying to the Great Spirit, from a sculpture housed at the Mid-America All-Indian Center, designed by Blackbear Bosin of the Kiowa-Comanche tribe. Wichita is the home of the Coleman lantern which became an essential part of every western household, and both White Castle and Pizza Hut had their origins in downtown Wichita as single small family-run shops. The exceptional prime rib and barbecue cuisine of the region also had its origins in the wagon train culture of the western pioneer. While your imagination soars as you gaze across the unobstructed vastness of south central Kansas sunflower and rolling wheat fields in America's heartland, it will be easy for you to feel what motivated the early Jayhawkers, as Kansas residents are called, to keep their new home a free-soil state where slavery was not permitted, a position which was fought violently by some of the early pioneers even throughout the Civil War, but which finally won out. Wichita has become one of America's most culturally rich cities, supporting a first class symphony and museums, yet surrounded by hundreds of miles of fertile American heartland, as beautiful and inspiring now as it must have been in the days when the Western pioneers first saw it.
